a beauty routine from the allergy queen...

2.26.2015

when it comes to beauty, i'm almost horrifyingly low maintenance because:

a.) i'm allergic to 90% of the world. google mob wives' big ang, that's
me when a dog licks my face.
and
b.) my skills with makeup are minimal at best. a six-year-old gave me a
better makeover than i could give myself.

skincare and makeup is kind of a trial by error process or in my case, trial by rash. i think i'm fairly low maintenance and my beauty skill level is zero, so if i can do it, so can you.

here's my current skin and makeup routine- until i mysteriously develop an allergic reaction.

1. wash: i was my face with acure sensitive skin cleanser from
 every morning and evening.

2. tone: because my skin is so dry, i use the acure facial toner
every other day.

3. moisturize: like said before, i have horribly dry skin. my face is like nevada. every morning
and night, i use kiehl's ultra facial cream. i'm not allergic to it ( a miracle! )
and it really helps my dry skin.

i also use the lustro face oil from beauty counter when my skin is extra
dry or when i have eczema- yucky but it's just something that goes along
with allergies and dry skin.

(acure cleanser and toner:  whole foods & target;  kiehl's ultra facial cream:  sephora;
lustro oil:  beauty counter)

1. foundation: i rarely wear foundation because i don't really like makeup. when i
do wear foundation, i use chanel's vitalumiere aqua. it goes on so well, you
only need the tiniest amount and it's incredibly light feeling. of course all the pros
come with a catch- it's incredible and incredibly expensive. if i hadn't have had a gift
card to a department store, i would have never paid for it.

2. highlighter: my face doesn't seem to lend itself well to contouring and i hate makeup, so
the next best thing is highlighting i guess. i use a little bit of the pearl shade illuminator,  ck one
from calvin klein under my eyes and on my cheek bones. i feel sparkly like a vampire in the sun.

3. eyeliner: i've recently decided that my face looks strange with black liner unless i attempt
to do winged liner. emphasis on the word attempt. i don't wear eyeliner everyday, but on the
days i do i use eyeko visual eyes in mocha.

4. eyeshadow: i don't like powdered eyeshadows mostly because i drop and break
makeup and they sit weird in my dry skin. cream shadows are what works best
for me. i use the eyeko me and my shadow shadow liner in taupe.

5. eyebrows: i don't have cara brows, but i try to make them look halfway
decent. i like sonia kashuk's clear brow gel to hold your eyebrows down in the wind.
the gel is clear, which is nice if you're blonde like me.

6. lips: i have no lips, well i do but my lips are like a centimeter wide, so i avoid
lipsticks. instead of lipstick, i like to use a tinted lip balm like maybelline's baby
lips
.

7. mascara: everyone want 60s doe eye lashes. lashes like twiggy, bardot and birkin.
i've been perpetually obsessed with sixties siren's makeup since i was about twelve.
the unfortunate thing is i've been allergic to 95% of those nice mascaras meant to give
you the false lashed, doe eyed look. i've finally found a mascara that doesn't make
my eyes swell shut. alexa chung's eye do mascara by eyeko gives me nice brigitte
bardot lashes without having to take a benedryl.

8. eyebrows: backtracking to the eyebrows, before i use the sonia kashuk brow gel,
i fill in my eyebrows with the eyeko brow liner pen. it only comes in one color, but it
blends well with my darker blonde brow color.

( chanel vitalumiere: dillard's, ck one illuminator: ulta, eyeko visual eyes: eyeko.co.uk
or sephora, me and my shadow:
eyeko.co.uk, sonia kashuk brow gel: target, baby lips:
target, eye do mascara: eyeko.co.uk or sephora)

touchdown tommy...

2.17.2015

it's that time of the year, new york fashion week for fall 2015. the time of the year where i look at all of the clothes that have "price upon request" written below them because they cost that much. fashion week is also the time where i issue my apology to hating tommy hilfiger clothing as a young girl (see my "formal apology" to tommy hilfiger in http://graciekarraker.blogspot.com).

i watched the tommy hilfiger fall 2015 fashion show and of course i liked all of the clothes. tommy hilfiger proved me wrong again. it's a beautiful collection.

it's the 30th anniversary of tommy hilfiger collection. the number thirty was incorporated into the collection like numbers on a football jersey, a few pieces had details designed to look like the lacing on a football and of course, the runway was a football field. what else would it be? i don't like football, but i like tommy hilfiger football. the collection has nods to jerseys, lettermen jackets, marching band and cheerleading uniforms.

the colors of the collection are beautiful. i like the use of velvet, if you don't like velvet that's your problem, and the pairing together of olive green, navy and tan. my favorite looks from the tommy hilfiger fall 2015 collection are below. i think my most favorite pieces are the velvet and what looks to be silk dresses. they make me think of daisy buchanan and jane birkin- the best dressed women ever.

heeled boots that look like cleats

velvet- the key to my heart. that or a scottish
accent.

"je t'aime jane"

my most favorite piece in the collection. very
jane birkin.

a mixtape monday / who the heck is beck?

2.09.2015

i watched about twenty minutes total of the grammy's, but i what i gathered was no one knows who beck is. who the heck is beck? beck is a real person and a very talented musician who's been making music for quite awhile. even if you thought beyonce should have won (i have zero opinion. it's only an awards show), you might like beck if you gave him a listen. here's some beck for your monday:
