chung-y

3.07.2015

alexa chung- she's just the coolest cat. if you think about, she's the human equivalent of a cat. in my opinion, if there's anyone to blatantly ripoff style-wise, it's chung.

the ultimate tomboy, aside from jane birkin, chung combines girly, ice skater frills with boyish pieces and shapes. alexa herself said, "i either want to look like an excellently dressed boy or a kitten from the 1960s".

these are important words to live by.

much of chung's wardrobe is based on basic pieces that can be dressed up or down and be paired with many outfits. here are some of those basics to look for if you're looking to feel well, "chung-y".

1.

the black flat

the first "chung-y" piece to add to your wardrobe is a black ballet flat.
black flats go with practically anything. alexa wears them with cut-offs,
jeans, skirts and even gowns. i like a flat with with a bow. its simple,
classic and adds a little bit of interest. the flat above is the gap's
classic ballet flat in black
.

2.

an ankle length jean

maybe it's because her legs are like three miles long, but
chung often wears a pair of ankle length jeans. i think they
show off your shoes better and translate to spring and summer
better. the jeans above are chung's own design, the revolution
jean
from ag jeans. with the price of those jeans, they better
be covered in solid gold. you can find them for much less.

3.

a grey coat

a dressier coat, like a peacoat, is great piece to have in
your wardrobe, but a grey-colored coat is even better. chung has many
a grey coat. the coat above is a cocoon coat from madewell's winter 2014
collection. it's a lighter look than a black coat and probably makes collected
kitty hairs a little less visible.

4.

a grey cardigan

another "chung-y" piece is a plain, grey cardigan. i myself,
have a thing for grey sweaters. like a black flat, a grey cardigan goes
with many outfits for many occasions. the sweater above is the spring-weight
cardigan from madewell. in the photograph above, chung wears a grey
cardigan with some jeans and smoking slippers.

5.

a printed blouse

alexa adds interest to a simple outfit with a basic blouse in a
fun print. chung's blouse is from shrimps, a clothing company by
british designer hannah weiland. you can find a printed button up
or oxford at almost any store. the one above was from the liberty of
london
prints for j.crew a couple of years ago.

6.

a white basic button down

the white button down is almost a tomboy essential. you should probably
own one. chung wore a white, silk button down to her ac for ag release in
new york. above, is the oversized boyshirt from madewell.
